WELCOME! To Misty Pond Alpaca & Maremmas

Welcome! We are Ruth & Rick Brinly of Misty Pond Alpaca and Maremmas. We recently retired to Paducah, KY and have just started our Alpaca farm! Why Alpaca? I fell in love with the warmth and softness of the fiber when our youngest son went on mission trip to Ecuador and brought back an alpaca scarf. WOW! Years later, we saw our first alpaca – at The Ark Encounter. It was then we fell in love with the animal. When we started talking about retirement, raising cows came up; after doing much research we decided alpaca would be much more enjoyable 🙂

In order to protect these wonderful animals from predators, we needed a LGD – Livestock Guardian Dog. After much research, we fell in love with the Maremma Sheepdog or Maremma Abruzzio. They are an Italian LGD, their official Italian name is Cane da Pastore Maremmano Abruzzese. Lucy is our beautiful female from AZ. Catone is a huge sweet polar bear, from Avezzano, Italy.

Welsh Harlequin Ducks also grace the pond here at Misty Pond.
